- The Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) recently released their latest Quarterly Home Price Index report.
- In the report, home prices are compared both regionally and by state.
- Based on the latest numbers, if you plan on relocating to another state, waiting to move may end up costing you more!
- Alaska, Delaware, West Virginia & Wyoming were the only states where home prices are lower than they were last year.
MORE DATA THAT SAYS WE ARE IN A “HOT HOUSING MARKET”
The attached charts show that we are in a period of robust price appreciation for houses, almost everywhere in the nation. Up an average of 6.15% year over year.
Interesting to note that the Mid Atlantic, where we reside, continues to trail most of the country. We were at 3.92%, lowest of any region in the country.
At least part of the reason is found in “The National Movers Study” done by National Van Lines every year. Only 11 states out of 50 showed net outbound movement. Five of them (Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Rhode Island) are right in our neighborhood. The highest in bound state, never would have guessed, SOUTH DAKOTA.
